Laney Schwartz of Life is but a Dish – Mamaste36

Laney Schwartz of @lifeisbutadish plainly put is a food blogger but there is nothing plain about her. Laney took to Instagram stories right away and that is where I first got hooked on her account. Cooking can seem daunting and it is a big task but she makes it approachable.

One of my favorite “segments” she does on Instagram stories is “What is in my cart”. Laney mainly shops at @traderjoes which is where I also mainly shop. There are some weeks where I am good cooking the same meals but there are some weeks I need inspiration and Laney is the first place I look. She is also a mom (to two adorable girls) so she helps me find fun snacks that I might not normally pick up because I can be a little strict about food.

Laney is getting ready to release her “Stressed out to Superstar: Guide to Stress-Free Entertaining” which I cannot wait for. Sign up at her website to get vip access.

Pease leave a review on Apple Podcasts. Thank you so much for listening!

School’s out for summer….in 3 days for Sam – Mamaste35

There are so many things I love about Samantha Gait-Tisi. She is quick to laugh, she is creative in her teaching which bleeds into her parenting and she knows the run time of Frozen (which is actually 1hr and 42 minutes not an 1hr and 40 minutes, Sam). Sam teaches 6th grader but has two young kids (3 years and 6 years) so we bounce back and forth talking about strategies for both younger and older kids.

When I was pregnant I started forming how I wanted to raise my future kid. One of these ideas was to try to be screen free for as long as possible. It is not easy or even possible for everyone. Sam does not share this parenting philosophy or really anyone I have met. The most important part for Sam is knowing what her kids are watching and balancing screen time with reading and other activities. Sam encourages as well as models reading for at least 5-20 minutes a day in order to avoid the “summer slump”.

We also talk about creative and fun things you can do together that will not annoy you to death i.e. read the same book 15 times as well as be willing to let your kids be bored.

Kimberly Ramsey Speech Language Pathologist – Mamaste34

This week on the Mamaste Podcast I talk to my dear friend Kim Ramsey. Kim is a Speech Language Pathologist that specializes in early intervention and adults with acquired brain injuries. Kim is one of my best friends from high school, along with Sam Gait-Tisi from episode 18 “Building Community Through Education”, and it was great to get talk about Kim’s professional life in-depth.

Kim is a recent graduate of the University of Montana where she received her master’s in communicative sciences and disorders. She decided to go back to school to pursue her dream of being a speech language pathologist once she realized that is what she wanted to do. In this episode we talk about what is speech therapy, why someone would seek out a speech language pathologist and Kim’s inspiration for choosing this career.

Velvet Chong Healing Touch Practitioner – Mamaste033

Velvet Chong has so much knowledge. I met Velvet 3 years ago in a kids music class and she was someone I wanted to connect with. Unfortunately, our kids are a few years apart and my making mom friends skills were in their infancy. When I started the podcast she was someone on my list to interview but we still did not see each other much so I started following her on Instagram. When I won a healing touch session with her I knew it was a great time to reconnect.

In episode 33 we talk about Velvet’s journey to becoming a healing touch practitioner, integrating healing touch with conventional medicine and finding our voice. Velvet is a practicing RN as well as healing touch practitioner. Velvet is constantly searching for more information in order to serve her family, her clients and herself. Velvet is very open and willing to share her passion for what she does. Velvet is very passionate about what she does but she is also very excited to learn more to share that knowledge. Check her out instagram @thevelvetlotus and her website
